Tight Diverter Valves
Tight Diverter Valves
The valves that move water from one area of the spa to another are called diverter valves. These valves may become tight and hard to turn due to grit or fine dirt being pushed up into them when the spa is in use. If a diverter valve handle is forced, it may break. Handles are inexpensive and are made to break, if forced, so that the valve does not.
This is a non-warranty item. In order to make the valve work smoothly, perform the following maintenance:
- Turn the power to the spa OFF.
- Remove the diverter cap handle and remove the diverter cap ring by turning it counter clockwise until it comes off.
- Grab the square valve stem and remove the valve.
- Clean any dirt or grit from the inside and outside of the valve and the valve housing that it was removed from with a clean cloth.
- If scores or scratches are visible or felt on the outside/rounded part of the valve, due to excessive wear, sand smooth with very small grit sandpaper or emery cloth.
- Apply a small amount of Jacks Lube or other non petroleum based lubricant to the outside of the valve and o'rings and reassemble.
- Turn power back on to spa. Valve should turn freely without much force.
IT IS RECOMMENDED BY THE SPA MANUFACTURER TO CLEAN AND LUBE THE DIVERTER VALVES EACH TIME THE SPA WATER IS CHANGED.
